Final perfromance evaluation

In this blog I will be evaluating my final performance of my choreography. Today, I performed my choreography. I found that this went very well. I am pleased to say that I remembered all the piece despite having little time to create it as well as me performing to my fullest and adding dynamic where needed. One thing I would like to have done differently was the spacing. I found that I stayed towards the front of the space for the majority of my piece when I needed to use the back too. However, I am not too worried about this due to me not having much opportunity to space the piece out before the performance. Now that my work is complete, I can look back at some challenges I have faced. Throughout these choreography lessons I found that trying new things were tricky for me. For example, I found improvisation extremely tricky at first. I found this hard due to never doing improvisation before. However, now I feel more comfortable improvising. Dance Piece #3

In this week’s blog I will be reviewing the dance piece named Carousel by Justin Peck. I will also be comparing this work to the previous two dance pieces I have reviewed such as Year of the Rabbit and In Creases. The work begins with the dancers singing whilst changing formations. One of the formations created is one resembling a boat. This is very interesting as the dancers use many different levels to create this shape by picking one another up and laying down on the floor. This beginning is very different to those of the other pieces I have reviewed as this piece seems to be very theatrical whereas the other two works, I reviewed are more balletic and classical. The dancers are constantly changing formations is which some are dancing, and others are stood at the side clapping the others on. Studio Performance

This weeks blog will be based on the review of my work. I aimed for my piece to have a contrast between both of its sections. I believe I completed this however I could add more contrast by making my movements even more sharp in the second half. This has been a tricky part in the creation of my solo as sharp movements are out of my comfort zone. When watching my piece I wanted the audience to be on the edge of their seat due to this being an aim of Justin Peck who is my chosen choreographer. I feel like I need to improve on this as when I watched back my solo I can see that I anticipated my movements before they came which did not give the spontaneous feeling I had aimed for. In my dance I did not use much of the right side of the stage. I will change this by making my movements bigger and changing the directions of some movements. Critical review of dance piece #2

This blog post is about Justin Peck’s work named In Creases. I will be comparing this dance piece to the piece named Year of the Rabbit as well as discussing my opinions on the work. The work In Creases is about “to divide, to fold, to crease the stage space.”. You can really see this within the movement due to variety of formations and shapes the dancers make as a group. Similarly to Year of the Rabbit, the movement is very spontaneous and it has both quick and slow sections. I like this spontaneous feel to the work as It keeps the audience interested and on the edge of their seat when watching. The work was inspired by the music which explains why the music and the movement link so seamlessly. For example, the movement becomes quicker as the music increases its piece. Creative Session 2

In today’s blog I will be discussing my progress in my solo since last week’s lesson and my inclusion of my chosen practitioner’s processes and styles. In today’s lesson I have reached the beginning of the mechanical section in my solo piece which is around 2 minutes into the choreography.   A reoccurring challenge I have faced when choreographing my solo was becoming stuck on what movement to put in next.   I have overcome this by filming myself improvising to my movement and thinking of my idea and themes behind my piece. I also overcame this by watching my peers and individuals online dancing and taking inspiration from their movement. After improvising I would watch the recording back and pick out the movements and combinations which I like. I ensure my choreography links to the ideas and themes behind my piece by adding dynamics to my choreography.
