choreographic devices

In today’s session we used the movement and grade we created last week using both our names and our phone numbers and joined another student to create a duet . We linked both solos by adding a few interlinking steps such as a roll to the floor. Once both solos linked together fluently we added choreographic devices such as accumulation and highlights. In my duet I added repetition , embellishment, contrast and retrograde. This made the piece of movement more interesting and I enjoyed watching my piece develop throughout the lesson. I added repetition by repeating a quick and dynamic roll throughout the movement phrase .I added contrast by making my jump quick and snappy and it being following by a slow rond de jamb of the leg. Above is the video I took of my duet I created today .
After this task we was given a handout on the personality traits of the zodiac signs. My star sign was seen as energetic , passionate , curious and active and well as spontaneous, aggressive and impatient. To show this I used lots of jumps varying in size and I used a lot of space to show spontaneity and an excess energy. I made my movements sharp to show anger and passion. After I created this movement phrase. I added 4 choreographic devices Into the solo. I added repetition , retrograde , contrast and embellishment. I added embellishment by adding a small circle of my head whilst in plank position. I added retrograde by repeating a devlope as an onvelope. I enjoyed this task as it made my solo look more interesting and it gave me a new way to create movement. The link to both of my pieces are below.

  1. This is not a bad start to your week 2 post!

Please title as Week 2- Choreographic Devices

Please think about the following points:
    - More detail on the various choreographic devices we looked at during class is needed (you could insert photos of the hand-out to illustrate this).
    - What is the purpose of integrating choreographic devices and the exercise set in class?
    - How did the integration of four choreographic devices affect your final phrase of movement?
    - Did you notice any strengths or weaknesses? If so, how will you develop your weaknesses/ how did your strengths assist you within the task?
    - Were you successful with the task set?
    - Which choreographic devices did you use and why?
    - What was the purpose of performing these tasks in front of the rest of the class?

What you have written about your zodiac task is good.

    Think about:
    - Do you think the purpose of the movement successfully came across to the audience?
    - How did you find this creative task? Interesting? Easy? Difficult? Why?
    - How did the allowance of more time affect the final product of your phrase?
    - Did you notice any strengths or weaknesses? If so, how will you develop your weaknesses/ how did your strengths assist you within the task?
    - What choreographic devices did you integrate and how/ why?
    - Were you successful with the task set? Was it readable to the audience?

Please watch your grammar and spelling!
Please can you give more detail when referencing your videos, so as a reader we can make a clear connection between your movement and your writing.
You have included some interesting points, well done!

    1. The integration of the four choreographic devices made my piece more interesting due to it having more layers. For example, when you look at the piece you can see the devices used however it is not that obvious that it distracts from the movement.
A weakness I found in today's session was making the two solos link together seamlessly due to the first solo being quicker in pace than the last solo. I overcame this by adding interlinking steps which slowly decreased in speed therefore the piece looked as if it was always one. A strength I found in the session was my ability to add the device of repetition without the dance seeming boring for the audience due to a phrase being performed again. I did this by changing the facing and levels of the repeated phrase therefore it was not that obvious that repetition had been used.
Overall, I believe I was successful in this task as I created a duet which linked seamlessly and added choreographic devices too it to create a captivating dance piece.

    2. In the zodiac sign task I believe my purpose of movement came across to the audience successfully due to when watching it back the emotion seems clear to me.
I found this task interesting as it pushed me out of my comfort zone to use new dynamics and movements to show my zodiac sign.
The allowance of more time allowed me to really practise my phrase allowing me to find the highlighting movements and adding dynamics to them. For example, a turn of the head made into a sharp whip of the head to create a more dramatic piece.
I added repetition, retrograde, contrast and embellishment as these were the devices I used in the previous task therefore I was comfortable with these choreographic devices.
I believe I was successful within this task as I love the movement I created and I believe it is very noticeable to the audience what traits I am aiming to portray.
