Creative Task 2
In today’s session we watched the constanance of kings by Justin peck. We looked into his choreographic process in order to make a piece of movement similarly to him. He used drawing and sketching shapes in order to create movement and formations for his dancers. To use this to make a small piece we each drew a shape on a piece of paper anywhere on the page. We could use this to create a map of movement or a step by step movement guide. I used the piece of paper as a map where as I moved across the floor I performed each shape. The drawing of the shapes is shown below. The shapes could be created by the body or you could move around them as if the shape was in front of you. For example, a circle could be performed as I turn or a rond de jamb of the leg in the shape of a circle.I used a mixture of both of these in order to create lots of unique movements for my phrase. The video of the phrase I created is above. I liked this task as it allowed you to repeat movements if I returned to the same place in the room. I found this task challenging as some shapes trhat were drawn were hard to make movement for . For example , the square was a hard one to create as it is hard to make the movement flow whilst creating sharp corners and edges. I found this task quite challenging as it was tricky to come up with unique ways of moving other than doing basic and expected moves. I aimed to avoid common moves as Justin’s piece kept you on the edge of your seat as his piece of movement was spontaneous and it constantly changed dynamic and direction. I also aimed to use all the space around me and use a variety of dynamics so that I could show the inspiration of justin’s piece.

You have included lots of detail about the task that you were set and have identified how you felt throughout the session. Which of your strengths in choreography helped you in this exercise? Well done, your final sequence is dynamic and has a good sense of fluidity.
ReplyDeleteI believe my fluid dynamic helped me with this exercise as it allowed me to create a seamless feel within the phrase.
DeleteI liked how you have written what the task was about as it gives the audience an idea what your solo is going be about. During your video, I could clearly see how you used the piece of paper as a map, as you explored different directions. What decisions led you to use the images as map?
ReplyDeleteOverall, your blog was very well set out, and I like how you are inspired by Justin Pecks work. I am looking forward to seeing your progress in the upcoming weeks.
I used the image as a map as I thought it was an interesting way to create movement. It also encouraged me to use all the space around me.
DeleteThis is a really good piece of choreography, well done! You have again used a good sense of fluidity throughout to link the movements together. Why did you choose to use the diagrams as a map instead of inspiration and how did this help with your choreographic processes when creating your piece?
ReplyDeleteThe use of the paper as a map encouraged me to use more space and I also found it a very interesting way to create movement.
DeleteI really enjoyed your choreography and the shapes are clearly shown through your movement. You mention above that your inspired by Justin Peck's piece, will you use the same shape process as he did in your own piece?
ReplyDeleteWhen creating my solo I aim to use this process as I found it an interesting way to create movement .
DeleteI found it clear to see the shapes you were making and everything linked together smoothly. How do you feel you overcame the challenges you faced in the task?
ReplyDeleteI found it challenging at the beginning of the lesson to create the shapes due to thinking about them too literally. I began to think of them as movements on the page so that I could create the phrase I have shown in this blog.
DeleteI like how you not only used examples to further the audiences knowledge however you also used photos and videos! What led you to the decision of using the shapes as a map? Could you have done anything else to spark curiosity?
ReplyDeleteI found that using the shapes as a map allowed me to use more space as I would have done if I had used the paper as a step by step movement guide.
DeleteThis is a great start! Was the task successful? Why?
ReplyDeleteThe task was successful as I created a interesting and spontaneous piece of movement which I was proud of when I watched it back. This task allowed me to find a new way to create movement which I will definitely use this task in the future as I found that the movement came natural to me.
